Designer Interview

How would you describe your design style and point of view?

My design approach is rooted in function first—maximizing storage and creating systems that are intuitive and easy to use. I focus on understanding how my clients live and interact with their space, then design around those needs.

At the same time, I aim to create spaces that feel cohesive with the home’s overall style, leaning toward timeless, classic aesthetics that won’t feel dated over time. While aesthetics are always an important part of my process and often where I begin, it’s ultimately functionality that drives my designs—ensuring the space not only looks beautiful, but works effortlessly for the client every day.

What drew you to this space, and what excited you most about designing it?

What drew me to this space was its location between the laundry room and primary bath—it naturally supports both function and flow. I was excited to create a design that connects these spaces and makes every day routines more efficient.

By orienting the linen storage toward the doorway, it becomes easily accessible from the laundry room, simplifying the process of putting items away. This placement also allows the closet to act as a transitional space, visually and functionally linking the two areas.

Overall, it was an opportunity to design a space that not only looks integrated, but truly works in harmony with how the client lives.

Describe the vision for your room in three words—and why those words matter.

Function, Style, Convenience.

Function ensures the space works effortlessly—every element is designed to maximize storage and support how the client uses it day to day. Style brings cohesion, tying the closet seamlessly into the surrounding spaces with a timeless, elevated look. Convenience is what makes it truly livable—everything is easy to access, logically placed, and designed to simplify daily routines between the laundry room and primary bath.

What’s one detail or decision that truly defines the space for you?

One detail that really defines the space for me is the placement of the drawer banks. I like to position them where they naturally create a focal point—whether that’s at the entry or beneath a window—so the first impression feels clean, intentional, and organized.

Drawers tend to be one of the most refined elements in a closet, so highlighting them adds both function and visual appeal. It also helps subtly break up the space and define different zones, making the overall layout feel more balanced and easy to navigate.

How did you balance beauty with real-life functionality?

I start with how the space will actually be used, then layer in the design. In this case, the layout was driven by creating an easy flow between the laundry room and primary bath—making storage accessible, intuitive, and efficient.

From there, I focused on clean lines, thoughtful symmetry, and moments like the placement of the drawer banks to bring in a sense of order and visual interest. The goal is always for the space to feel effortless to use, while still looking polished and cohesive with the rest of the home.
