Benjamin Moore is ushering in the new year with a palette as poised and polished as a perfectly cut blazer. Inspired by popular interest in suiting and classic silhouettes, the iconic paint and color brand chose Silhouette AF- 655 as its Color of the Year for 2026. The shade is a layered blend of rich espresso hues gracefully softened by subtle charcoal undertones.
Hannah Yeo, senior manager of color marketing at Benjamin Moore, says this year’s selection is inspired by the interplay of fashion and interiors. “The return of suiting has emerged with softer, fluid movements and layered textures coupled with meticulous draping and tailoring,” she says. “A similar trend is emerging in interiors, where timeless pieces and traditional design are making a strong comeback.”
Yeo points to the expanding appeal of the brown color family in both fashion and interiors, noting that it offers a warm alternative to black and grey. “Whether paired with rich navy or gleaming metallics, the versatility of brown allows it to harmonize effortlessly with a wide range of color and materials.”
That versatility becomes especially apparent in the home, where Silhouette AF-655 acts as an anchor for both traditional and modern design. “Whether you’re creating a cozy bedroom or family room or a more formal and dramatic dining area, this rich shade brings warmth and sophistication.”
Yeo recommends easing the color in gradually, introducing it in small doses or in enclosed areas such as powder rooms or transitional spaces. She also encourages pairing the color with lighter accents on trim, ceiling, wainscoting, or built-ins. Light-colored furnishings, and ample lighting can further enhance contrast and keep a space feeling open and inviting.
Staying true to the classic-meets-modern sensibility of contemporary suiting, Yeo emphasizes layering and materiality. “For an unexpected yet charming effect, extend the color to the ceiling or carry it seamlessly from room to room. Layering textures and patterns add dimension and sophistication, while metallic accents, reflective surfaces, and focused lighting can heighten the drama and elevate the overall design.”
